PUBLIC NOTICE
ROMEO SIDEWALK ORDINANCE NO.430

Please be notified that the Romeo Sidewalk Ordinance No. 430 will be enforced in its entirety. Portions of the Ordinance are being published for your information and participation.

Sect. 11. Sidewalks To Be Cleared. The occupant of every lot or premises adjoining any street, or the owner of such lot or premises, if the same are not occupied, shall be responsible to clear ice, snow and litter from sidewalks adjoining such lot or premises as herein stated.

Snow Removal: When an accumulation of two (2) inches or more of snow occurs, such snow shall be cleared from the sidewalks within twenty-four hours after such accumulation.

Ice Control: The occupant or owner shall make a prudent effort to control ice accumulation by complete removal or by applying sufficient amounts of de-icing material or sand.

Notwithstanding anything contained in this provision to the contrary, no owner or occupant of any property abutting a sidewalk shall at any time permit snow, ice or litter to accumulate or remain on said sidewalk which creates or presents a hazard or risk of injury to any pedestrian using said sidewalk.

Sect. 12. Failure to Clear Sidewalks or Remove Vehicles. If any occupant or owner shall neglect or fail to clear snow, ice or litter from the sidewalks adjoining his/her premises as required by this Ordinance,...when requested by a peace officer to do so, he/she shall be punished by a fine of not more than five hundred ($500.00) dollars, and the cost of prosecution, or imprisonment for not more than ninety (90) days, or both such fine and imprisonment.

Additionally, Michigan State Statute 257.677 a (4) States " A person shall not deposit, or cause to be deposited snow, ice or slush on any roadway or highway".
